Uziel lives with his mother, grandparents and uncle in a three-room adobe house with a tin roof and concrete and dirt floors. Uziel and his mom have their own bedroom. The kitchen is in a separate room from the house and the bathroom is outdoors. They have access to water from a hose on their property.
Uziel’s mother is a single parent. She used to be a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses church in the village, but she left the group when she got pregnant. She joined the Christian church after Uziel was born. Uziel’s mother helps her parents with farming and animal care, and she sells embroidered tea towels to help with the expenses for herself and Uziel.
