Shadrack lives with his sister, 2 cousins, his uncle and step-aunt in a one-room, bungalow-style house. The room is divided by a curtain and Shadrack shares a bed with his big sister. The home has no electricity and they use a two-bulb solar panel for lighting. The family does not have a kitchen so they cook with charcoal in an open space outdoors. They use a semi-constructed toilet facility which is covered with sacks for privacy. Water is fetched from a communal borehole which isn’t close by.
Shadrack’s uncle is his and his sister’s guardian after they were abandoned at his house by their father.
