Ever wonder if you’re really making an impact in the life of the child you sponsor?
The very fact that your child knows you chose them shows them they are special and that they matter. They know they’re important to you and also to God, you may even be an answer to their prayers.
You’re providing holistic care for your child. This includes education, nutritious meals, spiritual mentorship, health care, tutoring and school tuition, health care, and safe drinking water!
You’re also making an impact on their family. Parents have peace of mind because of you, knowing they’re supported, and their child has their basic needs met. And all of this happens just because you said yes to sponsoring.
Beyond meeting their critical needs, you have the opportunity to build a priceless personal relationship with your child. You can get to know each other more by writing letters, sending video messages, and visiting them on a mission trip.
Most importantly, by choosing to sponsor your child, you’re helping them discover their true worth and God-given purpose for their life. You can’t put a price tag on that!
We don’t always hear from the children about how sponsorship has changed their lives: Often, they’re shy, embarrassed, or can’t find the words to express their gratitude. But sometimes, we are blessed to get a glimpse into their heart and thoughts. Below is a section of a letter that a sponsor recently received from Allan in Uganda:
“You have been an immense source of strength and courage for me during this tough phase. I cannot thank you enough for ensuring I finish my education without any hurdles. Being a part of a college was just a dream for me until you entered my life. I am the only person in my family to get such an opportunity. None of this would have been possible without your constant support and guidance. I shall forever be grateful to you.”
Be encouraged! Your sponsorship IS making a difference! Children and families are being given hope for their futures. God is using you to change a child’s life, which then impacts those around them. You may not hear directly from your child of their gratitude and the impact you’ve made, but know that you are a gift. We at Forward Edge are so thankful for you. Words are hard to find to fully express how blessed we are to partner with you as God uses us to change lives for eternity.

As a child sponsor for over 3 decades, and now as the Child Sponsorship Administrator for Forward Edge, I am often asked (and challenged myself) about how to best communicate with a sponsored child. In almost all cases, the children we sponsor live in other countries. We do live in

Woodlin lives with his parents, older sister, and an additional 30 extended family members in his grandmother’s home. With the help of donors, Forward Edge built this concrete block house for the Joseph family in 2017 to replace and expand an old sheet metal structure they used to live in. There are four bedrooms and 13 beds in the home and they have an outdoor bathroom and kitchen. They have electricity but no running water.
To support the family, Woodlin’s mother works as a hair stylist and his father is a mason.
