Ever wonder if you’re really making an impact in the life of the child you sponsor?
The very fact that your child knows you chose them shows them they are special and that they matter. They know they’re important to you and also to God, you may even be an answer to their prayers.
You’re providing holistic care for your child. This includes education, nutritious meals, spiritual mentorship, health care, tutoring and school tuition, health care, and safe drinking water!
You’re also making an impact on their family. Parents have peace of mind because of you, knowing they’re supported, and their child has their basic needs met. And all of this happens just because you said yes to sponsoring.
Beyond meeting their critical needs, you have the opportunity to build a priceless personal relationship with your child. You can get to know each other more by writing letters, sending video messages, and visiting them on a mission trip.
Most importantly, by choosing to sponsor your child, you’re helping them discover their true worth and God-given purpose for their life. You can’t put a price tag on that!
We don’t always hear from the children about how sponsorship has changed their lives: Often, they’re shy, embarrassed, or can’t find the words to express their gratitude. But sometimes, we are blessed to get a glimpse into their heart and thoughts. Below is a section of a letter that a sponsor recently received from Allan in Uganda:
“You have been an immense source of strength and courage for me during this tough phase. I cannot thank you enough for ensuring I finish my education without any hurdles. Being a part of a college was just a dream for me until you entered my life. I am the only person in my family to get such an opportunity. None of this would have been possible without your constant support and guidance. I shall forever be grateful to you.”
Be encouraged! Your sponsorship IS making a difference! Children and families are being given hope for their futures. God is using you to change a child’s life, which then impacts those around them. You may not hear directly from your child of their gratitude and the impact you’ve made, but know that you are a gift. We at Forward Edge are so thankful for you. Thomas lives with his mother and two siblings in a one-bedroom cement brick house. The family has access to electricity but no potable water. The village women and girls must fetch water from a local dam or walk long distances to find other sources.
Thomas is from a family that practices polygamy; his father has two wives. Thomas, his mother and his siblings, Pearl and Moses (also in the program), are going through much difficulty. His father neglects them and refuses to provide for them and their education; all of the responsibilities have fallen to his mother who has a disability. She offers hand-laundering services to other people to try and earn money, but it is infrequent. Before Create Hope, they lived on less than a dollar a day and some days there was no food. Now, Thomas and his siblings do not have to go to school without eating. Thomas is a Christian and he prays things will get better for him and his family.
