Imagine that you’re a teenager living in a community with 800 people where 60% of them are living in poverty. Life is hard – your family often doesn’t even have food for meals. The only ‘reliable’ source of water is a bore hole two miles from your home, so you must walk there and back before and after school every day for your family to have water.
A glimmer of hope comes when a Christian non-profit starts providing meals at your school every day – no more gnawing hunger pains during school. They start telling you about Jesus and His love for you. Hope grows, but you still worry about the future.
For the children of Kibibi, that’s only the beginning. We want lasting hope and real transformation for these children. Our planned community center will bring help through vocational training, business coaching, safe community gatherings, and spiritual guidance. Transformation – like caterpillars becoming butterflies or tadpoles becoming frogs – it’s more than just change. It’s bigger than that. It’s comprehensive. It’s inside and out. It takes time, sacrifice and effort for new life to emerge. As the Forward Edge Family, we care about the transformation of children and their communities – we know it’s worth the time and effort as they grow in hope and faith in Jesus.
This year for Giving Tuesday, we are ‘planting the seeds’ of transformation in a new community by starting our Uganda Community Center project in Kibibi, Uganda. The community told us that young people need opportunities to build brighter futures right in Kibibi as they mature.
The first phase of the community center project is to drill a well and build the infrastructure to provide water for the community and water for construction. This well will save two hours a day of labor for the women and girls.
